EBONY  reports the VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY and HARVARD LAW SCHOOL-educated Civil Rights Attorney and University Professor is the FIRST And ONLY BLACK WOMAN to hold down a post as NEW YORK TIMES COLUMNIST.

She is the author of The NEW JIM CROW: MASS INCARCERATION In The AGE Of COLORBLINDNESS and formerly served as director for the ACLU: Northern California - Racial Justice Project.

NEW YORK TIMES  issued a press release during which NEW YORK TIMES Editorial Page Editor JAMES BENNET stated;
