In 2016, when 26-year-old MIAMI native LISSETTE CALVEIRO moved to NEW YORK CITY, she was in credit card debt to the tune of over $10,000!!!

Her professional industry was Public Relations (PR) and Marketing, but; was supplementing her primary income by making moves as an Instagram Influencer.

COSMOPOLITAN Magazine reports that in attempts to showcase her perfect life/lifestyle, she was spending UP $10,000 In CREDIT CARD DEBT TRYING To BECOME An INSTAGRAM INFLUENCER way more money than she was making.

LISSETTE CALVEIRO explains accumulating such debt via living beyond one's means;
"Instagram, or any [kind of] picture-perfect life, is not worth going into debt for,"

LISSETTE explains that ignorer to facilitate her move from MIA to NYC, she had to financially restructure her entire life;

"Moving to New York was always in my career plan. But I felt that I was not going to be able to fully live out this experience if I had credit card debt looming over my head. I was confident I would pay it off 'eventually,' but had to do it quickly in order to live a peaceful life.

She realized that her lifestyle overhaul meant re-prioritizing her full-time profession over her social media vocation.It also forced her to drastically reduce her very regular travel excursions, and; her regular designer clothing and accessories purchases.

LC on coming to terms with the harshest of all realities;
"understanding how to live under [her] means." She ended up renting an apartment "about half the monthly cost of what [she] could have comfortably afforded" which "allowed [her] to make huge payments to [her credit] cards.

While her student loans still loom over her, she has managed to dig her way out from under her mountain of credit card debt.

Because she knows that many of her contemporaries find themselves facing similar conundrums, Lissette is speaking out on her situation because she is also very aware that not many others choose to remain silent.

 "My close network of friends also have similar sentiments where they feel like this problem of overspending to have a 'picture perfect life' is so common, that it's surprising no one has spoke up about it yet."
"Talking about personal finance shouldn't be taboo, or something to be afraid of."
In the passing time since speaking out, LISSETTE CALVEIRO has more than doubled her Instagram following.

I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY: For a handful of months, I’ve felt very uninspired to curate my feed and felt that many things I’ve been putting out are bland, inauthentic and have little meaning. I started to try to create more meaning for myself by expanded in what I say per post and committing to at least 1 blog post a month. But the reality is, that’s a bandaid solution. I have been so wrapped up in this “influencer” space from both the front and back end that I started to camouflage into a sea of sameness. “Take a picture of me here because I’m wearing a cool outfit, and this wall is pretty.” I used to post photos of people, things and experiences I cared about and moved to more “me in this pose” photos when I started getting more “likes” on those. This platform isn’t about LIKES, it’s about CONNECTIONS. It’s about sharing nuggets of your life because you want to inspire others to discover, because you want to indulge in things others have helped you discover, and giving people the space to be creative with content (whether it’s a selfie or damn avocado toast). I feel like I’ve hit a turning point and I promise to be more authentic and truly hone in on the real value I can bring to all of you and stop posting content just for the sake of posting content. It doesn’t mean I won’t stop posting photos of myself — I have so much fun playing around with personal style and the beautiful city I live in — but you can rest assured that I’m posting something because that moment was truly special to me, and it ~may~ bring value to you. Be yourself, love yourself and never stop growing. ——————————————————————————— Always happy to continue this dialogue via DM and keep this community growing. Lots of love to everyone that always shows the upmost support. ✨And, a shout out to @songofstyle because this perspective shift came after watching your interview with @evachen212. Keep keeping on, power girls!

“She has been feeling it for awhile — that sense of awaking. There is a gentle rage simmering inside her, and it is getting stronger by the day. She will hold it close to her — she will nurture it and let it grow. She won't let anyone take it away from her. It is her rocket fuel and finally, she is going places. She can feel it down to her very core — this is her time. She will not only climb mountains — she will move them too.” •• Happy #InternationalWomensDay — what a year it’s been! Women today are stronger, louder, more powerful than yesterday and it brings tears to my eyes to see the brave lives she leads. Women: make it a point today to lift up a sister, set a positive goal/intention for your life, and do something for yourself. Wether it’s a treat yourself day, an evening of meditation or finally asking for that raise you deserve. We’re ALL rooting for you today, and everyday. ✌🏽
