MARDI GRAS TUESDAY, February 28, President DONALD TRUMP gave his first address to a joint session of The UNITED STATES CONGRESS!!!
As he looked out into the audience of lawmakers, he may have noticed the dozens of women in the HOUSE DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS dressed in white, the official color of the women's suffrage movement and the color suffragettes wore when they fought for the right to vote in the early 1900's.
DEMOCRATIC WOMEN'S WORKING GROUP Chair Member Rep. LOIS FRANKEL (D: FL) said;
“We wear white to unite against any attempts by the Trump Administration to roll back the incredible progress women have made in the last century, and we will continue to support the advancement of all women. We will not go back.”
The protest from women lawmakers is one of many among Democrats who protested during Trump's first joint address to congress. There is a total of 66 Democratic women in the house, and at least a dozen lawmakers invited young, undocumented immigrants and children of refugees and those affected by the Affordable Care Act as guests.
HOISE DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS Vice Chairwoman LINDA SANCHEZ said;
“We want a visual reminder to him that suffragettes wore white and we are not going to let him take us backward. We are not going to let men dictate the choices that we have in our lives. We are not going to stand for a president that doesn’t respect us and take our perspective into account.”
