HAPPY SAFER INTERNET DAY to ALL of My CRAZY COOL GROOVY Family, Friends, Frats, Fans, Followers, Frenemies, and FANTABULICIOUSTICAL Funky Fresh Fly Folks of ALL Colors, Shapes, Sizes, Flavors, Persuasions, and, Denominations!!!

SAFER INTERNET DAY (SID) seeks to raise awareness about online issues from cyberbullying to social networking. Each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and chooses a topic reflecting current concerns.

Safer Internet Centres and Committees:

Insafe is a European network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs). Every national Centre implements awareness and educational campaigns, runs a helpline, and works closely with youth to ensure an evidence-based, multi-stakeholder approach to creating a better internet.

However, Safer Internet Day is also celebrated outside Europe. In 2009, the concept of Safer Internet Day Committees was introduced, to strengthen the bonds with countries outside the network and invest in a harmonised promotion of the campaign across the world. Around 70 global SID Committees now work closely with the Safer Internet Day Coordination Team, which is based at the heart of the European Union in Brussels. If there is not yet a SID Committee in your country, but you would be interested in forming one, please get in touch.

SAFER INTERNET DAY USA (SIDUSA) gained official recognition in the U.S. in late 2012, with a joint agreement between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the European Commission to work together to build a better internet for youth. The U.S. celebration got a big boost in 2013, when Insafe appointed ConnectSafely.org as the U.S.’s coordinator going forward.

Our plan is to make each Safer Internet Day U.S. (SID U.S.) a highly collaborative project that promotes the efforts of internet users of all ages, interests and backgrounds to make the internet a better place and the world a better place with the help of the internet. This year we are featuring the good deeds and leadership of young people in “uniting for a better internet,” the EC’s theme for SID 2017.
SID U.S.’s Steering Committee is ConnectSafely, Committee for Children, Common Sense Media, Family Online Safety Institute, #iCanHelp, iKeepSafe Coalition, Internet Education Foundation, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, National Cyber Security Alliance and National PTA.
Safer Internet Day U.S. is made possible with the generous support of Comcast, Facebook, Google, LifeLock, Microsoft, Snapchat, Trend Micro, Twitter and ASKfm.
Please join all of us in celebrating Safer Internet Day and each user’s efforts, big and small, to make the internet a better place and the world a better place using the internet and connected technology!
