METHOD MAN On WEED, MOVIES, & WU-TANG For PLAYBOY MAG!!!

LONG ISLAND, NY-native Rapper/Actor CLIFFORD METHOD MAN SMITH is one of the founding members of famed hip hop collective WU-TANG CLAN, and over the past few years, has segued himself into an acting career!!!

Director/Producer/Actor/Journalist JAMES FRANCO managed to catch up with METHOD MAN just long enough to get an interview for PLAYBOY Magazine: FRANCOFILE.

Here are some interview interludes:

What got you into hip-hop?

I’ve always been into hip-hop but not particularly writing and rhyming. It was the dudes I hung around. That’s why I always say it’s important to know who your kids are hanging around, because that’s going to be a greater influence than anything else. I could have hung out with dudes that was crackheads, and I could have been a crackhead. But I hung out with dudes that liked to rhyme.

You’re in ninth grade and rhyming with friends. What does that look like?

Let’s put it this way: There was a lot of truancy going on, you know what I’m saying? We would meet up at the bus stop on our way to school, and dudes got money in their pockets. It was $5 for a ravioli bag. That’s slang for a $5 sack of weed that came in a big yellow envelope. We would all put our money together, then we’d go up in the staircase and just be rhyming all day off that one bag of weed. Our building only went up to the sixth floor and then you had the roof, so we would rhyme in between the sixth floor and the roof because it had a lot of bass in there.

When did Wu-Tang start?

Wu-Tang was supposed to be RZA, GZA and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, just those three. We all did a song together that was supposed to be a posse cut—you know, one of those songs where you put all your friends on it. But when we recorded it, RZA thought, Damn, I got a lot of dope niggas in my home right now. He had an epiphany: I might as well come in as a group with all these dudes. I don’t know how GZA and Dirty felt about it, but that’s a little Wu-Tang trivia. But we all had to pay to get on that song. Studio time was expensive and none of us had money, but it was $100 a head to get into the studio and get on that record. Afterward, I remember RZA coming to talk to me about the whole Wu-Tang thing and what he had planned.

How did you make the move into acting?

They wanted me to perform one of my songs in a movie called The Great White Hype. Sam Jackson was there, and Damon Wayans too. Sam was doing a movie called One Eight Seven, and they called me in to do a little part. Once I did that, I was hooked. The first audition I went on was for a movie called Cop Land, and I went in and it was horrible. My manager told me to go back in with the whole “Bring the Pain” look—the eyeball missing, the whole thing. So I went back in with my getup on, and I got the part. From there, it was on, but there weren’t a lot of roles for rappers—unless you were like freaking Will Smith. Redman and I decided the only way we were going to get into the game was if we made our own movie. That’s when I met my manager, and she gave us the opportunity to make How High

Is Wu-Tang still recording?

Not right now. I’m doing my thing with acting. RZA’s directing. We gave it one last shot on this latest LP, but you know, it wasn’t received well by the fans. And some of the Clan members didn’t like it either—the way it was done, the process and all that. For me, if you don’t love what you’re doing anymore, it’s time to leave that shit the fuck alone. But you know, dudes in the Clan still have that itch, and I’m a team player, so if they want to go back and make another album, as many albums as they want to make, I’m here for it.

TWITTER Is SHUTTING DOWN VINE!!!

Modal TriggerTwitter is shutting down Vine

R.I.P. VINE!!!

The looping-video app will be shut down “in the coming months” as the app’s struggling owner Twitter slashes costs in search of profits.
NEW YORK POST  reports in a blog post on Medium, Vine and Twitter said that while the mobile app used to create Vine’s six-second videos will disappear, the website will remain online “because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made.”
A pioneer of mobile video sharing, Vine has lately lost eyeballs with the rise of Snapchat and Instagram.
Over the past year, Twitter has lavished attention on its Periscope live-streaming app.
After the Thursday announcement, VINE Co-Founder RUS YUSUPOV tweeted;
 “Don’t sell your company!”
Asked about the rationale for axing Vine, a Twitter spokeswoman said it was “one element of the restructure that was announced this morning during our earnings call, same rationale.”
Earlier Thursday, Twitter announced it was slashing 9 percent of its workforce as it bids to become profitable next year.
Thursday, in a letter to investors, TWITTER said;
“We intend to fully invest in our highest priorities and are de-prioritizing certain initiatives and simplifying how we operate in other areas,”

“The restructuring, which focuses primarily on reorganizing the company’s sales, partnerships, and marketing efforts, is intended to create greater focus and efficiency to enable Twitter’s goal of driving toward GAAP profitability in 2017.”
HOWEVER; as we eulogize for the VINE, the really good folks over at ROLLING STONE Magazine have for us -  8 REASONS WHY VINE MATTERED:

1. It served as one of the most visible spaces for young, black creatives.Vine's greatest gift to young internet culture was the incredible space for primarily black teenagers to shine. Some of the most famous, viral moments during Vine's tenure were prompted by young, black users, including Bobby Shmurda's "Shmoney" dance, the invention of the term "on fleek" and the popularization of songs like Silentó's "Watch Me."

2. The app was the music business' most unique discovery tool.Lip-sync app Musical.ly has taken over this contribution Vine gave the world, but Vine made the memeification of pop music sustainable and important

3. Dance crazes became re-popularized through the videos and specific users.Young dancers like SheLovesMeechie and Lucas and Marcus found a niche on the app that factored into Vine's music discovery abilities.

4. Vine produced smarter, more in-touch pop stars.Beyond viral songs, Vine also created actual pop stars. Shawn Mendes and Ruth B are the young talents currently benefitting the most from their Vine fame.

5. It popularized a new approach to comedy.On YouTube, viewers were drawn to the ridiculous as often as they were the earnest. The video streaming sites' biggest users were typically funny, charming vloggers like Kingsley or Grace Helbig and its viral content hit WTF levels of irreverence, like the sketch "OMG Shoes," "Chocolate Rain" and the dramatic hamster meme, all from its early years of existence. Vine allowed charming, relatable creators to post with irreverence, making for the type of content that was at one time disposable and lingering; at six seconds, they didn’t demand much time, but they would still be there hours or days later if a user had an urge to return.

6. A fresh generation of comedy stars were born.While it has yet to be seen if Vine-famous comedians and personalities will break into Hollywood, the popularity of users like King Bach, Jay Versace, Cameron Dallas and Lele Pons shows that there's an audience for their unique talents at sketch comedy and impersonations.

7. A post-YouTube gateway to viral fame was paved.Vine's focus on brevity paved the way for Snapchat and its heavy focus on popular music made a space for Musical.ly. With less space and materials, Vine created a world of MacGyver-esque viral stars that have rose in prominence because of how well they use their limited resources.

8. It introduced a more irreverent side of already famous celebrities.
As with all social media sites and apps, many of Vine's most popular users were people who were famous long before the app's creation. Drake, Kylie Jenner, Tyra Banks, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles and more used the app often and with gusto, especially in the first two years of the start-up's existence.

FIGHT Of The CENTURY: DONALD TRUMP vs JOE BIDEN On PLAYBOY MAG!!!

Trump vs. Biden: The Fight of the Century: Photo illustration by Playboy; Images: Marc Nozell; Michael Vadon; Wavebreak Media ltd, Image Source / Alamy

Somehow unsurprisingly, a feud has been brewing between Vice President JOE BIDEN and REPUBLICAN Presidential Candidate DONALD TRUMP!!!
Last week Biden said, in response to a question about debating Trump;
”No, I wish I were in high school, I could take him behind the gym. That’s what I wish.”
During a recent rally in Florida, Trump responded in a truly Trumplike fashion that he welcomed the fight;
“Did you see where Biden wants to take me to the back of the barn? Me. He wants to. I’d love that. I’d love that. You know when he’s Mr. Tough Guy? When he’s standing behind the microphone by himself — that’s when.”
Those sound like fighting words, so the rally good folks over at PLAYBOY Magazine decided to take the next logical step and mock up what the boxing poster might look like when they inevitably quit their talking and take to the ring. It won’t be pretty, but it will most definitely be entertaining.

#BLACKGIRLMAGIC: ASHLEY LOVE-MILLS On ROLLING OUT MAG!!!

ashley-love-mills-ro
ORLANDO, FL-native/former Miss NORTH CAROLINA USA turned Actress ASHLEY LOVE-MILLS covers the new issue of ROLLING OUT Magazine!!!

Here are some interview interludes:

Where are you originally from?
Originally, Orlando, Florida. My family is from North Carolina, which is where I was living and where I went to college. I eventually moved to Atlanta in 2013, after I gave up my crown as Miss North Carolina.
How did you decide to be involved in pageants?
It’s not. To be honest, I didn’t find pageants; they found me. I got a letter from the organization that owns the Miss North Carolina USA system, saying that somebody that knew me from my high school suggested that I do the pageant. I ignored the letter, and I actually threw it away. As fate would have it, a couple of weeks later, my dad and I were watching TV, and I saw the Teen USA pageant on the television and it looked like the girls were having fun. Well, I was trying to break into modeling at the time, so I thought it would be good exposure. So, I wrote the organization a letter saying I still wanted to compete. That year, I placed 6th out of 96 girls. So from there, I just made the decision that I wanted to win, so I put my mind to it and eventually won Miss North Carolina USA.
So how did you finally escape being looked at as a pageant girl? What happened that finally allowed you to turn the corner and really have people look at you as an actor?
Well, have I escaped it? We’re talking about it now. I don’t think that I’ve escaped it. I don’t think I’ll ever escape it because it is a part of who I am and I don’t deny that. I’m not ashamed of it. Everything is about choices and I’ve always tried to be really smart about the choices that I’ve made in life, and at the time pursuing pageants was right for me. And now, I’m happy with where I’m headed as an actress.
How did it feel to have Tyler Perry cast you for his show “Too Close To Home”?
I was overwhelmed. I fell to the ground like, ‘Wait, what’s happening? I’ve booked a lead on what? … It’s for who?’ It was, if nothing, a huge sigh of relief. Finally, somebody saw something that I always saw in myself. Finally, it was more than hopes for next time. But while all of this was going on, it was still kind of hard to take in because the same day that I got the call about booking the show, I put my dad in a hospice and he died three days later. So it was very …
… Bittersweet?
Yeah, it was bittersweet. I did get a chance to tell my dad; I told my dad the next day that I booked the show. He didn’t respond, as he was heavily medicated with morphine. But I know that he really wanted this for me, and I had a chance to tell him that I was going to go to the call back right before we put him in a hospice. And he held my hand tight and he had tears coming down his face, even though he couldn’t say anything. So I know that he heard me.
