50 years ago on March 19, 1966, the Head Coach DON HASKINS and theTEXAS WESTERN COLLEGE/ UNIVERSITY Of TEXAS At EL PASO (UTEP) MINERS defeated Head Coach ADOLPH RUPP and the KENTUCKY WILDCATS 72 -65 to win the1966 NCAA DIVISION I MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
With that 1966 victory,, DON HASKINS became the first NCAA D-I Head Coach in NCAA HISTORY to coach an ALL-BLACK STARTING FIVE to a NATIONAL TITLE.
The historic victory became the subject of the book and film, GLORY ROAD, with JOSH LUCAS portraying HASKINS, and JON VOIGHT portraying ADOLPH RUPP.
