INDEPENDENT LENS: A BALLERINA'S TALE - The RISE of MISTY COPELAND!!!

In 2015, KANSAS CITY, MO-native Ballerina MISTY COPELAND made history as the FIRST BLACK WOMAN to be named a PRINCIPAL DANCER for the prestigious AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE (ABT)!!!

INDEPENDENT LENS  presents a Documentary Film by Filmmaker NELSON GEORGE which tells the story of MISTY COPELAND from her hometown of KANSAS CITY, MO, to growing up in  SAN PEDRO, CA, joining the ABT organization, and her meteoric rise in the world of dance.

A BALLERINA'S TALE: THE INCREDIBLE RISE Of MISTY CROPLAND  also sheds light on the extreme dearth of BLACK WOMEN in MAJOR DANCE COMPANIES, how the historic emphasis on young women having waifish bodies can often lead to severe health issues, and how Misty speaks to these issues.
