MISSOURI HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS Wear BLACKFACE For POWDER-PUFF GAME!!!

A group of SULLIVAN HIGH SCHOOL seniors decided to wear BLACKFACE during their annual POPWDER-PUFF GAME!!!

SULLIVAN HIGH SCHOOL Principal JENNIFER SCHMIDT said that there was “nothing racial” about the incident.

 After seeing the twelve Sullivan High School girls enter the stadium wearing blackface, she said her first thought was, “Oh my gosh.”

SHS Principal JENNIFER SCHMIDT said she then thought;
"Oh, they don’t mean anything by it. Just let it go. No one thinks anything of it."
Reactions to the photos have been lighting up social media since they were posted on Facebook by someone in attendance.

Many pointed out the lack of racial sensitivity, especially considering SULLIVAN HIGH SCHOOL is located in SULLIVAN, MO, less than 75 miles from FERGUSON, MO, where unarmed teen MICHAEL BROWN was shot and killed by a FERGUSON POLICE Officer DARREN WILSON.

Schmidt said it is common for the older girls to wear face paint in efforts to intimidate the underclassmen. She added the face paint usually consists of the school’s colors — black AND gold — however this year no one brought gold.

RIVERFRONT TIMES reports Principal SCHMIDT said;
"So that's what they wore. There was nothing racial about it. They didn't have any other intention other than to just try to intimidate the underclassmen. I can assure you they will not be wearing black face paint again. In fact, we're probably just going to end the face-paint thing, and nobody wears any at all."
EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE English/Journalism Professor LEIGH KOLB encountered the Sullivan High School photos the day after the powder-puff game, when one of her students showed her the images during a class discussion about the history of blackface.

Professor LEIGH KOLB said;
"It was pretty clearly offensive to us. It's an example of...likely not egregious and malicious intent, but a lack of historical context."
This lack of knowledge, says Kolb, isn't just restricted to girls' powder-puff football games. During the same class, a student showed Kolb a Twitter photo from a Washington man who dressed as Darren Wilson for Halloween -- along with a friend who donned blackface for a Michael Brown costume.
