MARDI GRAS CAFE': RESTAURANT & LOUNGE is conveniently located across the street from GROWN MONEY ENTERTAINMENT in the 800 block of MLK in Southwest ATLANTA, and has a menu that offers both traditional NEW ORLEANS CREOLE as well as CONTEMPORARY SOUL FOOD cuisine.

The MARDI GRAS CAFE' Dining Room is located downstairs, features a completely OPEN KITCHEN, and appears to comfortably seat about 25 persons; while the Lounge is located upstairs.

Your meal is ordered at the front counter, and is delivered to your table.

We were greeted by the entire staff, including the chefs who were very busy throwing down their culinary concoctions.

Ya Boy CCG has not yet been upstairs to view the lounge.

CCG chose the JAMBALAYA, with a side order of GARLIC SPINACH; while Niecy had the 9-piece LEMON PEPPER WINGS & FRIES. We both drank Sweet Tea.

JAMBALAYA is a traditional NEW ORLEANS dish, with its' roots in AFRICA. It is generally rice, shrimp, chicken, and sausage (beef, pork, or turkey), that is accented with a tomato-based  sauce. They use beef sausage.

The rice was evenly cooked, meaning; firm without being hard, or, mushy-soft. The shrimp were of the medium-to-large variety (NICE!!!), the chicken was easily discerned to be from the breast, and the sausage chunks were very meaty.

The sauce accented each of the individual the elements very well, giving the meal a good old fashioned creole kick, while neither overwhelming the individual ingredients, or, consuming the entire dish.

It was most satisfying to enjoy the distinctive flavors of the shrimp, chicken, and sausage, inside of a dish that utilizes all three - and is covered by sauce.

Niecy is 9 years old, and loves LEMON PEPPER WINGS. CCG is 46, and doesn't.

One of the primary reasons for this is that they tend to be flavored with TOO MUCH lemon, or; TOO MUCH pepper.

However; CCG did try one of wings from her plate and found it to be quite refreshing.

It was perfectly fried Golden Crispy Brown, and both the Lemon and Pepper seasonings accented the chicken. The French Fries were fresh-out-the-grease hot (NICE!!!).

CCG really appreciated that the wing did not shellac the entire inside of his mouth with that gawdawful lemon-and-pepper-that-never-goes-away taste.

YOU Know!!!

Only one issue; there are stairs inside the entrance door, and stairs from the restaurant to the lounge.

CCG saw neither a ramp for handicapped access to the restaurant, or; an elevator for access to the lounge.

GOOD FOOD, GOOD COMPANY, GOOD SERVICE, GOOD LOCATION, GOOD TIMES!!!
